Unfortunately we received bad news with mom's MRI and PET scan at Duke yesterday. There is a recurrence of the tumor and the PET scan showed it was tumor growth. The doctor is going to put her on a drug combination of Gleevec and Hydroxyurea, which is a growth inhibitor (not a chemo). He said that when someone has been treated with a lot of chemo previously that they can become somewhat resistant, so he wants to start with this. They will do another MRI in 1 month and if there is progression they would start a chemo.
He thinks the problems with seeing out of her right eye are related to the tumor, not cataract. She's also had numbness in her left leg from the knee down and fallen once because it gave out.
Please pray for mom that the new drugs have a positive effect. She will be back home later tonight.
